Professionals Take Note: Marketing Makes All The Difference!

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Dr. Gary S. Goodman Youve seen it happen countless times. Someone you know gets a big promotion at work, or scores a conspicuous success in the world, and youre left shaking your head. I cant believe hes making it! you might be telling yourself, because youre more talented, a harder worker, or youve simply always outdistanced your pal in the past. Why HIM? you ask the heavens. The answer simply may be that hes a better self-promoter than you are. A few years back I was part of an elite team that trained 18,000 senior Navy managers to be more effective at their jobs. One evening, our group was having dinner and relaxing in Cape Cod, and the most senior member held forth about consultants. Considering we all fit that description, he had a rapt audience. He said: Consultants are basically the same. The only thing that really determines whether one is more successful than the next, is marketing. I disagreed, silently. I felt I was vastly superior because of my credentials and depth of knowledge in certain fields, and I heard what he said and thought: Thats too simplistic! But Ive come to see the wisdom in his words. Marketing matters, a lot! There are zillions of consultants, chiropractors, dentists, accountants, and you name it. Why does one earn an exceptional living while the rest aggregate closer to the mean? Marketing. Professionals that hustle, keeping their names in front of clients and prospects, creating differentiation from the pack, are the ones who win the most business. Talent is trumped by persistence, by tireless self-promotion. And this fact applies to nearly every walk of life. Dr. Gary S. Goodman, President of Customersatisfaction.com, is a popular keynote speaker, management consultant, and seminar leader and the best-selling author of 12 books, including Reach Out & Sell Someone and Monitoring, Measuring & Managing Customer Service, and the audio program, The Law of Large Numbers: How To Make Success Inevitable, published by Nightingale-Conant. Tips for Backyard Fish Ponds Care

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Tim Lee Installing a backyard fish pond is an aesthetic addition to your landscaping and offers a bit of tranquility as well. However, taking care of backyard fish ponds is not as easy as one might think. And, you have to do more than simply install the fish pond and then let it go. Backyard fish ponds care is constant and consistent. Although, if you follow these tips you will be able to enjoy your backyard fish pond with as little effort possible in its maintenance. Tip #1 Use a Plastic Liner Use a plastic liner to separate your backyard fish pond from the surrounding soil. By doing this you eliminate nutrients from the soil intruding your fish pond and will only have to deal with the elements that are in the pond itself or are created by the fish living in the pond. Tip #2 No Low-lying Areas Do not install a backyard fish pond in a low lying area where runoff from your lawn will end up in your fish pond. Maintaining the fish pond is difficult enough without introducing runoff from the lawn. When installed on a high area you will have an easier time maintaining your fish pond. Tip #3 Water Plants Another great suggestion is to add several varieties of plants in and around your fish pond. This way the excess nutrients will be absorbed by the plants and will not end up promoting algae growth in your fish pond. This works well because it keeps algae from growing and you having to clean the algae out. Maintaining a fish pond takes work, and you should expect algae to be a problem, especially if you have fish. Just follow these tips to keep your algae problem to a minimum. Couples Relationship Assessment Quiz - Part 2: Conscious “I”

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Glenn Cohen Do you really know yourself? Do you understand that your actions and behaviors affect your relationship? The Journey from I-TO-WE, the road to a successful relationship, begins with the letter I. Only when you know and understand yourself, and your partner has achieved the same, can you Co-Create a Conscious Relationship. This assessment helps you recognize the areas in which you have strength and the areas that need attention. This free set of assessments offers you the chance to find powerful answers. If you are willing to take the time to reflect on these questions, discuss them, and be honest with yourselves and each other, it can help you on your journey to Co-Create a Conscious Relationship so you can be Best Friends During the Day, Lovers at Night, and Partners for Life. The adventure of life gives us the incredible opportunity to learn and grow as individuals. I like to say that we do not stop learning, stretching, growing, maturing, and changing until we are 6 feet under. What happens so often is we go through life unaware that we dont know what we dont know. In this fast-paced world, many of us do not have or take the time to sit, take a deep breath, and really think about the statements addressed in these assessments. We usually do not reflect on and consider the impact the answers to these statements can have on our relationship. We must gain the awareness, learn the techniques, and practice the skills to Co-Create a Conscious Relationship. Take your time to think about each statement and be honest. One partner should use a black pen and the other partner a red pen. Rate your degree of agreement for each statement on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being a definite yes and 1 being a definite no. Write your score on the first line to the left of each statement. The second line is for your partners score. You may find it difficult to give certain statements a low score. You may worry that your response will hurt or offend your partner or create conflict. Honesty, however, is critical for the success of the Co-Create a Conscious Relationship program. Also, no matter what score your partner writes down, be supportive; do not get defensive, resentful, or angry. Thank him or her for being courageous and honest. All of the topics in this assessment series are covered in detail, with exercises, in my book The Journey from I-TO-WE. Conscious I _____ _____ - 1 - I have gained awareness that I am to blame for some of the problems in the relationship. _____ _____ - 2 - I have broken through the veil of denial about my unhealed emotional wounds. _____ _____ - 3 - I understand how my fears affect the relationship and myself. _____ _____ - 4 - I have looked at my issues and problems from different perspectives. _____ _____ - 5 - I have accepted the truth about the real issue or problem within myself. _____ _____ - 6 - I have taken absolute personal responsibility for all of my behaviors, words, and actions. _____ _____ - 7 - I have defined my values and vision to live by — for the relationship and myself. _____ _____ - 8 - I have accepted the challenge to learn, stretch, grow, mature, and change. _____ _____ - 9 - I have made a plan of action and set goals for my changes. _____ _____ - 10 - I have made a commitment to myself, my partner, and to the relationship. _____ - Total Score You have 10 statements for a total possible score of 100. If your total is: 80 or higher — You scored in the upper percentile Congratulations! You have obviously taken the time to work, ensuring your relationship has the best chance to be successful. Though your relationship is strong, it can only benefit from gaining new awareness, new skills, and new techniques. Good luck in Co-Creating a Conscious Relationship! 60 79 — You scored in the average range Congratulations! Re-read the statements you scored low on and take the time to learn how to raise your score. Consider Co-Creating a Conscious Relationshipthrough gaining new awareness, new skills, and new techniques. You and the relationship will be much stronger on The Journey from I-TO-WE. 0 59 — You scored in the lower range Congratulations! You now know where you need to take the time to closely examine these areas of your relationship. It would benefit both of you to think about these statements, and work toward Co-Creating a Conscious Relationship through gaining new awareness, new skills, and new techniques. Commit to each other to give unselfishly and unconditionally to do whatever you need to do to make each other feel safe, loved and cared for I hope this part of this assessment has been enlightening and helpful. When you get a chance, take the next set of this assessment. Keep the print outs for each so, at the end of the series, you can trace your progress on your journey to Co-Create a Conscious Relationship. I hope you and your partner Gain the Awareness, Learn the Skills and Practice the Techniques so you are successful on your Journey from I-TO-WE to live your lives as each others Best Friends During the Day, Lovers at Night, and Partners for Life2006 All Rights Reserved Glenn Cohen I-TO-WE Relationship Coaching Become a member of the I-TO-WE Institute Community. Summer Slim Down Secrets - How To Get Your Best Summer Body Ever

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

By Dianne Villano For many people, New Years Resolutions have long since been forgotten as we happily went through the cold months in our many layers of clothes. If you were motivated and focused enough to stick with your New Years resolution to get into shape this year congratulations!! As the rest of you start to shed your winter wardrobes and notice lumps, bumps and jiggles in places that you would rather not mention, thoughts start to wander to summer and its skin revealing styles. Dont fear, there is hope to make some serious changes to your body before summer begins and we start hitting the boats, beaches, pool parties and donning our summer wardrobes. You may not be quite in your dream body in a month but you can make real, dramatic changes. Starting now can not only have you looking firmer and more toned in your swimsuit at the start of the summer but will have you 3 months closer to really strutting your stuff as the summer ends. These are the tips and tricks which we have used for years to get our clients bodies summer ready 1. Set Realistic Goals - Enthusiasm often wanes when pounds dont magically disappear overnight. You can not undo years (or months) of bad habits and achieve the body of your dreams in a few weeks 2. Look For Situations To Be active -Look for the hard way to do things - Park as far from the store as you can rather than looking for the closest parking spot, use the stairs rather than the elevator, if possible carry your bags out to your car instead of using the cart. 3. Always eat breakfast - Food fuels your metabolism - Studies show that those who skip the first meal, end up eating more total calories throughout the day and tend to make less healthy choices Skipping breakfast sends the message to your body that you’re starving because you haven’t had food for a while. As a protective mechanism, your metabolism will slow down. 4. Dont starve yourself - Less than 1,200 is usually not enough to support your basal metabolism and thus will slow your body’s calorie-burning ability Very low calorie diets will, in the short term, help you lose weight but theyre extremely difficult to maintain. Youll gradually become tired and irritable & lack the energy to exercise usually putting the end to your fitness program and leading to the beginning of a binge cycle. 5. Eat 5 - 6 small meals a day - Try to eat at least 3 meals a day. Optimally you should spread your calories throughout 5 -6 small meals per day. This will keep your metabolism roaring, your hunger in check and your blood sugar level even to help avoid binging. 6. Drink Plenty Of water Drinking water helps keep you feeling full. Many times dehydration can mask itself as hunger so if you are feeling snacky try a glass of water before you eat. Water also helps keep the kidneys flushed which helps the liver metabolize fat at full force. 7. Follow the 90% to 10% rule. If you watch what you eat 90% of the time, the other 10% is not a problem 8. Close Your eyes and visualize - When the going gets rough or when you just dont feel like it. Take a moment and visualize the slimmer, firmer, healthy more energetic person that you want to be this summer Focus on the clothes that you want to wear and the places where you would like to be more comfortable. Remember the reason why you started your fitness/ nutrition program in the first place!! Create a clear mental picture and use it next time you feel like you are losing site of your fitness goal. 9. Eat your fruits & Veggies - Freshness Counts - The packaging and processing generally found in “convenience” foods generally reduce the nutrient values of foods and substantially raise the caloric content. The simple sugars found in processed foods generally leave people feeling hungry and craving carbohydrates - The American Dietetic Association recommends at least 3 - 5 fruit servings per day and 3 7 vegetable servings. Since fruits & vegetables are nutritionally dense and full of fiber eating plenty will keep your hunger satisfied and your body shrinking - 10. Just do it - The difference between the people strutting their stuff in the summers skin bearing fashions and those hiding their stuff is simply habits. There are the same amount of hours and stress in each week for every one of us - those who fit exercise and healthy eating into their lifestyles don’t have more time or less stress, they just have healthier habits. The next time that you are unable to follow through on one of your weight loss goals - Identify the challenge and prepare a plan for the next time. Don’t dwell on it or make excuses for why you can’t do it. Copyright Custom Bodies, Inc. 2005 Article written by Dianne Villano, President of Custom Bodies in Tampa Bay, Fl. The Other Center Of Attention At Your Wedding!

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Carmel Baird There are so many different styles of centerpieces to choose from. The type of flowers you choose will often dictate the style of the arrangement. The theme and color scheme of your wedding will be a big factor in what flowers you choose. You don’t have to just have flowers, there are some wonderful combinations of flowers and fruits and this can be a way to get just the right colors too. Your wedding florist or wedding planner will be able to guide you in this area. Remember the arrangement should be low enough for your wedding guests to “chat over” or high enough for them to “talk under”. The centerpiece should never block your guests view, when your guests are seated, their head height should be a clear way view for them. If you are working on a tight budget, sometimes the table centerpieces are often included with the wedding reception venue costs. This is always a question you should ask when enquiring about costings. If they are included then the next question should be how much choice you have and if you don’t like the choice, are you able to organize your own arrangements and how much will the reduction in costs to you be. There are wedding equipment hire companies that will hire out containers and if you want a dramatic impact at your reception, then you may be able to go for a stunning container that needs not much in the flower department to get the WOW factor. Often times with flowers less can be more. You can always opt to make up your own bridal centerpieces, keep the theme simple if you’re not artistic, try three single stem vases on each table, clear always looks best, with a clean stem flower in each, a tulip, gerbera, orchid, rose. On a round or square table, group them in the center with a candle between or if you have rectangle tables, then place them down the center line and put a candle between each and at each end. Remember the head height rule for the size of the vases. Spaghetti jars lend themselves to so many options for centerpieces. You can have them filled with colored glass pebbles to match your wedding color scheme, then have flowers arranged at the top to cascade down, fill them with colorful potpourri, colored water with a floral decoration on top or even a candle with ribbons trailing down. If you don’t want flowers, then ask your florist to do some exotic fruit arrangements, or pyramids of lemons, limes or oranges or a combination of all three. Remember for a fun look, balloons floating above your wedding reception tables can look fantastic. These are held by special weights and can be color matched to your theme. This is often a less expensive centerpeice. You can have the balloons added to your floral centepiece too. If you think you might like this idea, then contact a balloon decorator, they are very artistic people and have some wonderful ideas, you will be amazed at what they will come up with. A piece of advice, when you are dealing with artistic, creative people, don’t try to restrict them too much, when you first consult with them, give then a free reign to come up with ideas for you, give them the details of your theme, your color scheme, flowers you like, the style of church/wedding ceremony venue, bridal reception room/marque, see what they come up with for you. Even if you have definite ideas, keep them to yourself to start with. Mostly these people are very creative and love nothing better than a challenge and to do something new. Many florists will do balloons and balloon decorators will do flowers. Often times they will work together too. You are only limited by your imagination and if your imagination happens to be limited, then ask for ideas, your family, your florist, your wedding planner will all throw their ideas into the hat, then you can sort through and decide which you would like best. Remember, with all that is placed on the wedding reception tables these days, keep this in mind when choosing your centerpieces. The ‘less is more’ often works best. Bermuda Grass - Turf For Your Lawn

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Tania Penwell A suitable lawn grass favored for its texture and color is the Bermuda grass. This is also known as Dogs Tooth Grass. The genus Cynodon (Greek word for dog-tooth) contains the nine species of grasses native to the warm temperate to tropical regions that constitute the Bermuda grasses. This only requires moderate lawn grass care, maintenance and mowing. This is a sun loving grass of the warm seasons and is usually planted from grass seed though propagation can be made possible by rhizomes, offsets and seeds. Bermuda grass is a perennial grass. Though native to Europe this grass has now become cosmopolitan in warm regions. This grows in the tropical, sub tropical and transition zones. In southern United States and India this grass is largely being grown now. This grass is found on golf courses, sports arenas, sports fields, reclamation areas, parks, coastal areas and pastures apart from lawns. There are now being introduced special Bermuda varieties that are tolerant to colder climes to a greater extent and species of the grass that are more drought resistant. Thus the grass planting area is moving further northwards and the grass is becoming more prevalent in the transition zone also. An advantageous aspect of using the Bermuda grass is that once planted the grass can provide complete lawn coverage in a years time. This is a most persistent and aggressive grass species. Even its germination from seed is very quick. It can grow in a variety of soils too. It has also got a fair salt spray tolerance level thus making it suitable for coastal regions also. An excellent way to transform your lawn is to use Princess 77 Bermuda grass that is among the latest seeded Bermuda grasses available. This produces a dense, green turf while costing far less than using the sodded varieties. For establishing a Bermuda grass lawn it is important to first eliminate all existing grass and weeds by the application of a nonselective herbicide. The Bermuda turf can be mowed low for a green type look. It can also be maintained at greater heights for a denser fairway look. Two cold tolerant varieties of the Bermuda grass are the Yukon and Rivera. While Yukon has a darker green color the Rivera has a fast growing and damage repair ability. The Bermuda grass is pretty resistant to diseases and insects. Some varieties of the grass are, however, more resistant than others. Personal preferences play an important role in the selection of the Bermuda grass type that is to be used for covering the lawn. The cost factor is important too. Emergency Cash Till Payday Loans - Comparing Cash Advance Lenders

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder Emergency cash can be found online with cash advance lenders to help you get through until payday. With hundreds of payday loan companies online, you have your choice of fees, requirements, and terms. With a little bit of research on your part, you can find a payday loan that best fits your needs. Reviewing Payday Loan Fees and APR Fees are usually the first thing people compare with cash advances. Since payday loans are for such a short period, usually two weeks or less, interest is charged as a flat fee. Fees are pretty similar between lenders, varying only a few percent. The APR posted is used as a comparison tool, even though you don’t pay a yearly rate. If you are only concerned about cost, then a quick look at most sites will find the lowest costing loan. Just don’t get caught on application fees. Checking Out Low Cost Payday Loan Requirements Payday loans don’t require a credit check, but there are some basic requirements. For example, you have to be able to repay the loan by having a source of income. You also must have an active checking account to both receive and send funds. Some lenders have more stringent requirements than others. For instance, some companies may require you to fax in copies of your bank statements. Others may ask that you have no other outstanding payday loans. Inquiring About Cash Advance Loan Amounts and Payment Terms Loan amounts vary with lenders. Some will offer amounts as little as $100 all the way up to $3000, depending on your income. State laws can also limit how much you can borrow. For amounts over $500, check with your lender to verify how much you can borrow. Some cash advance companies are more flexible about payment than others. Traditionally, on your payday, the entire loan amount and finance fee are deducted from you account. However, there are some companies who extend your payment for several weeks. But, the delay in total payment racks up charges for you. When comparing payday loans, look for what works best for you. Determine what is more important to you - convenience or low rates. Also, take the time to check out a couple of companies to be sure you are getting a good deal on fees. Lose Weight Permanently - No. 10 - Cut Out Fats

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

By Eric Hartwell You have made a great decision to go on a diet and lose that weight. But how do you give up the things you love? It can be so hard cruel even! But, the fact is that some foods make you fat and there is no place for them. So, when you start this diet, make sure you eliminate more fat from your diet. Limiting fatty food intake will help in a weight loss program. Fat is, well, fattening. It is the scourge of people that need to lose weight. It may taste nice but it is no good for you. Nearly everything that contains fat will not only make you gain weight (or make it more difficult to lose weight) but will also add to your overall health risk (heart and blood vessel disease). Fat has 9 calories per gram and proteins and carbohydrates have only 4 calories per gram. So it makes sense to avoid fat if at all possible. Try to cut down on fatty meat, butter, cooking oil and such like. Those nice cakes and pastries you love so much are out. Live with it there will be long term benefits if you can stick it out. Foods that contain less fat are also, in general, healthier foods. They can look nice, smell nice and taste nice. They do not give you the health risks that fats can and, in addition, they can help with other things such as vitamin levels and daily roughage. So, cut out fats and fattening foods and your diet will be well on the way to a successful outcome. How To Make A Better First Impression

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Jerome Spector In Anatomy of Love, Helen Fisher observed that people who meet and are attracted toward each other tend to mirror each other. She said that researchers in societies all over the world observed the same thing. When one would lean forward to sip a drink, the other would lean forward to sip a drink. When one sat back, the other sat back. Fisher said it was like a dance, and when she saw two singles mirroring each others moves, chances are they would be leaving together. It works the other way as well. If you mirror and match your dates, they will come to feel more attracted to you. The more they perceive that you are like them, unconsciously, the more they will like you. It has to be subtle, though. You cant be obviously about it. Fisher said she used mirroring and matching in a meeting with her publisher. The relationship was strained, and the meeting could make or break her book deal. She ordered the same thing he ordered. When he sipped his wine, she sipped her wine. When he salted his food, she salted her food, and so on and so forth. She said it turned the relationship around and led to a publishing deal. Ive used the techniques successfully in business meetings, too. Ive used it in counseling, and in dating situations.Heres what I do.I slow or speed up my speech to match the others rhythm.I take the same kind of posture, but not necessarily exactly the same. For example, if she crossed her arms, I may cross my legs. Thats close enough.I also try to use the same kinds of words and phrases. If she says, yall Im going to refrain from using, youse guys.Whats more, when Im using the mirroring and matching techniques, Im especially cautious about expressing differences. If shes a vegetarian, I dont go on and on about my smoked brisket recipe. I find ways to agree with her. One study found that if you express three differences on a first date, a second date is unlikely. The neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) folks have made mirroring and matching into a science.
