The Folly of Diet Recipes

May 1st, 2008 by cecilyhesk

By Virginia Bola, PsyD Have you ever wondered why diet books always seem to have a section of recipes? Apart from the desire to make the book look larger and therefore more worthwhile, why should we be so interested in studying foods and ways to serve it when we are trying to avoid it as much as possible? It is inconceivable that we have reached adulthood without the basic skills to boil, bake, steam, or roast our food. We all know that these are the only low fat methods we should be using on any diet. And whatever we eat, plainer is better to control calories. So what are all these recipes doing in a book that is supposed to be redirecting our attention away from food? Is it a case of mutual fool-yourself-time? The diet authors know that unless their menus have taste, and enticing pictures or detailed ingredient lists, no one will select their plan and they’ll lose money. In their real diet plan outline, they identify what is allowed and what is forbidden. Their recipe section might have been written by someone else. Certainly there are substitutions made to qualify as diet food but desserts, dips, and brunches? We bury our heads in the sand, keep taunting ourselves with those addictive sweet flavors, and crow about the minimal number of calories in a serving of the dish (a thimbleful size - check the small print on how many people this little dish is supposed to serve). Admit it, the only reason we crave recipes is to spice something up, to increase our pleasure and make the whole dieting task less painful. We can eat food plain without any fancy recipes but that would be no fun. So we convince ourselves that all the stuff we are adding to our basics: low fat gravy, liquid margarine instead of butter, lemon and capers in place of tartar sauce, vinegar and oil rather than creamy Ranch, and a variety of sugar substitutes are all allowed in our plan so we might as well enjoy. And then we are surprised and disappointed when the weight loss stops. It must be my glands! Virginia Bola is a licensed psychologist and an admitted diet fanatic. Budgeting For Tummy Tuck

April 28th, 2008 by cecilyhesk

By Arturo Ronzon Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty surgery is a major surgical procedure that involves the abdominal area. The abdominal skin is trimmed and excess fat is removed. The stomach muscle is also tightened by stitching them together. The end result is a slimmer waistline. Being a major surgical operation, the recovery period can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months before you can enjoy the full benefits of a tummy tuck. There are several points that should be taken into account when saving up for a tummy tuck. The most straightforward of then all is the actual cost of the surgery. The cost presented will normally be for the surgical procedure plus the cost of anesthetics. Nowadays, most plastic surgery clinics that perform tummy tucks will offer several forms of financial planning to help fund your tummy tuck operation. If you can afford it, then a straightforward cash payment is the way to go. However, there are options for financing the tummy tuck that will allow you to make steady monthly payments. A major surgery like a tummy tuck normally entails spending a few nights at the clinic or hospital so be prepared to fork out a bit more cash for a room. Shared rooms are cheaper but afford less privacy while a single room would offer you more privacy to recover at a higher cost. If you want to, you can splash out a bit more and get yourself a suite in the hospital if one is available. An extra bed is a payable option for single rooms if there is someone accompanying you but this option is normally not allowed in shared rooms. Once you have been discharged from the room or clinic, be prepared to budget for follow up visits to the tummy tuck specialist. The first few visits will be to remove the dressing and to check on the healing of the scar while monitoring your overall recovery progress. The doctor will also be prescribing you some medication to help you through the rest of your recovery. Some other costs to be considered are more towards making recovery more comfortable. Since the tummy tuck surgery creates an incision from hip to hip just above the pubic area, buying some loose fitting underwear and pants would help keep you comfortable. Entrepreneurs and Venture Capital For Microsoft-Mobile Phone New Vision

April 26th, 2008 by cecilyhesk

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lance_Winslow]Lance Winslow The merging of cell phones with computers is the talk of the town and Microsoft is indeed correct in that regard. Smart thinking Bill Gates and it makes perfect sense too. Consider where cell phone 3G, 4G and 5G Plus are talking us with real time GPS. Your phone rings and tells you there is a Starbucks near you. You press okay button. Turn right, turn left, parking lot on your right 50 yards. Good got it and they have a drive thru. Your Frappachino is already being built as the drive thru took the order as you drove up and you cell phone has already charged it and the gal at the window hands it to you and thanks you by name. You are on a trip 1500 miles from home in a rental car, they have never seen you before and probably never will again. Thank you technology, I need that. But as many uses as there are for this technology there needs to be entrepreneurial start up companies and venture capital firms there to fund the up front costs to get it done you see? This is why there is a huge gap now to be filled to fulfill the future of this technology as Microsoft assists in making a whole new market and industry built for the entrepreneur serving mankind and not making humans slaves to their computers. Chill Out With A Summer Time Marketing Plan

April 24th, 2008 by cecilyhesk

By Bonnie Jo Davis Is your business experiencing a summer time slump? Traditionally only industries related to travel enjoy a boost in business during the warmer months. The rest of us tend to take vacations, clean up our desk and while away the time playing computer games while we wait for business to pick up. Summer time can and should be a time when business owners prepare for the marketing they will do for the rest of the year and handle tasks they have been putting off when business is brisk. Some of the marketing tasks that can be handled during the summer are:Turn previously dead leads into sales. Contact everyone who expressed an interest in your product or services but did not follow through. They may have more time to consider your offers during the summer and you might be able to reach them more easily if their secretary is on vacation. Create and begin to market that newsletter you always planned on starting. Write a press release related to summer time activities and send it to appropriate newspapers both on-line and off-line. Ask a few business associates to review and offer suggestions about your marketing materials. Update your materials to get them ready for the busier times ahead.Next start getting ready for the future with the following tasks:Write at least twelve articles related to your business and have them proofread and edited until they are polished. You will submit one article each month for the next year to appropriate publications. Create a web site marketing plan. Research web site promotion on the internet and create a list of items that you can work on for the next several months. Develop several contests for your web site visitors and newsletter subscribers that you can run regularly during the year. Prepare advertising text, rules and decide on prizes. Contact your local Chamber of Commerce and offer to speak at a fall or winter event. Write your speech and practice it until you feel comfortable working without notes. Research and budget for e-zine and newsletter advertising for the next twelve months. Set up a tickler file to remind you when to submit and pay for your ads.Grab a glass of lemonade and get started on using the summer months to your advantage. Implement just a few of the ideas in this article every summer and watch your sales soar all year round! Knowledge Men Can Use To Accelerate Attraction With Women When On A Date

April 22nd, 2008 by cecilyhesk

By Teddy Shabba Most men already know that women process the world entirely different than men. Yet only a few men actually take this into complete consideration when planning a date with women. Your average man plans to take a woman to a movie and maybe dinner, with the hopes that somewhere during the night the sparks will fly. This method of dating only works if the woman already has a very high level of attraction for you. If you dated a different woman once a week for an entire year you would be lucky if three of them had that type of attraction for you. On the other hand, women when preparing to go out on a date are looking for connections to be made and the more connections you make the better your odds. Almost all women will have 3 different categories for the amount of connections it will take in order for them to sleep with a man. 1. Drunk By far the easiest one for men to make a connection with since a drunk woman’s inhibition are usually low so is here connection factor most of the time two or three will do just fine for her. However once sober if you still want to hook up with her again you are right back at zero. 2. First Dates It can be anywhere between the first to fourth dates and sometimes even longer in prudish girls. This is by far the most difficult one as it usually requires the most levels of connection to have sex with her. When a woman says she doesn’t have sex on the first date what she really is saying is you didn’t get enough connection points. 3. Casual or Serious Dating This can be as early as the second date but for most women you are looking at three or four dates. Surprisingly many women require less of a connection when casually dating a guy than they do for a first date. What this means is many times a guy really is just playing the waiting game until she moves him from the first date category into the casual or serious dating category. Another thing men tend to fail to realize is that women do not give you points for each and every connection you make but rather for each connection you make at a different time. So when you are at dinner with a woman even if in your mind you made several connections with her and she agrees you still only get one or maybe two connection points for dinner. Whereas, the guy who takes her to coffee makes a few connections, then takes her to a cool art store makes a few more connections, and ends the night by feeding ducks in the park and making a few more connections. At the end of his nigh even though he may have made less connections than the guy who took her to dinner in her mind he will have connected with her many times over, sometimes even enough to invite him in to stay. Once you realize that sometimes in order to get what you want you have to give her what she wants and even though dinner and great conversation can be good doing a variety of activities and making the same or even less connections is even better. Analysis of Modern Portfolio Theory

April 21st, 2008 by cecilyhesk

By Verena Veneeva The foundation of modern portfolio theory (MPT) was introduced by Harry Markowitz in 1952. Thirty-eight years later, Harry Markowitz, Merton Miller and William Sharpe were awarded Nobel Prize for what has become a broad theory for portfolio selection. Modern portfolio theory (commonly referred as mean variance analysis) established a whole new terminology which became a norm among investment managers. (Gupta, FrancisMarkowitz, Fabozzi, Frank. 2002) It has wide application in different areas of financial management such as: asset allocation through mean variance optimization, bond portfolio immunization, optimal investment trust or manager selection, international asset allocation decisions, portfolio risk management and hedging strategies. The core concept of the Portfolio Theory is based on asset diversification and directly relies on the conventional wisdom which advice to avoid putting all eggs in one basket (Papers4you.com, 2006). In its simplest form MPT provides a framework to construct efficient portfolios by selection of the investment assets, considering risk appetite of the investor. MPT employs statistical measures such as correlation and co variation to quantify the effect of the diversification on the performance of portfolio. In it is essence MPT attempts to analyse how different investments are interrelated to each other. What happens if one investment goes broke? Does it mean that all other investments will go broke as well? How to minimize the negative effect of the downfall in one particular investment asset? According to Markowitz (1952) investors should focus on selecting portfolios based on their overall risk-reward characteristics instead of merely compiling portfolios from securities that each individually has attractive risk-reward characteristics. In a nutshell, inventors should select portfolios not individual securities. (Risk glossary) While the theory behind MPT is quite straightforward, the implementation of efficient asset allocation can become quite complicated. The model employs a wide range of different factors such as security returns, volatilities and correlation between asset classes for constructing efficient mean variance frontier. The frontier is considered to be efficient because every point on this frontier is a portfolio that gives the greatest possible return for certain risk level. (Gupta, et al, 2002) Since asset allocation decisions are so important, majority of the financial advisors determine optimal portfolios for their clients, both institutional and private. While the implementation of the mean variance analysis requires specific skill and knowledge, the main concepts are relatively easy and can be easily presented to the wide audience (Papers4you.com, 2006). Surprisingly, MPT has wide implications in everyday life as well, since all of us are somehow involved into investment decisions. Everyone has to think about securing funds for the future education or pension, investing into property or buying a new car, and allocating some money for the coming vocation. How to justify these decisions, what would be the optimal solution? Familiarity with portfolio theory allows bringing up the ideas employed by professional investors into everyday life. God Has a Plan For You

April 19th, 2008 by cecilyhesk

By Eva Fry Do you think Our Father In Heaven and Jesus Christ know you? Do you think Father has a plan for your life? Is it possible He knew you before you came to earth and sent you here on a Mission? How many of you believe in Satan, the Devil or Lucifer? Do you think Satan knows you too and knows your lifes mission? Do you believe he wants to stop you from accomplishing your lifes mission? Stop you from doing what God sent you to earth to do? We dont remember any of that, but in the scriptures there are accounts of people, in the bible, who he definitely knew and had a life plan for them, and even knew things about how they would live their life? Do you know any of those people? Jesus Christ. John the Baptist Sampson Jesus Jesus was Gods son and had a special mission to teach us Gods Gospel and to sacrifice his own life to save all of us. The Angel Gabriel-New Testament-(Matthew 1:21) told Joseph that Mary would bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS. For he shall save his people from their sins. Did Satan- the Devil - know Gods plan? Yes. Did he try to stop him? Yes he tried to win him away from God by making big promises to him- (Matthew 4: 8-10) What did Jesus say to Satan? (Matt 4:10) Get Thee hence Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. John the Baptist An angel of God also appeared to Johns father Zacharias and told him his wife would also have a baby and what that baby would do. Luke; 1:15 and in Luke 1:76 His father was told that John shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways. He did this and prepared the people by teaching them to repent and be baptized and got them ready for Jesus to come to them and John even baptized Jesus. Interestingly Zacharias was told of his son (Matt: 1:15) for he shall be great in the sight of the Lord and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink? And he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost. Was Johns mission important? Yes Samuel When the children of Israel had been in bondage for 40 years God raised up a person, who would begin to deliver them out of the hands of the Egyptians. Before Samuel was born, an angel came to his mother- old testament- (Judges 13:3,4,5) and told her she would have a son and told her his mission but also told her something very interesting. He told her drink not wine nor strong drink and eat not any unclean thing. If God loves us and knew us before we were born and has sent each one of us on a mission, like he did Jesus, John the Baptist and Samuel and he tells us not to use alcohol or drugs do you think Satan knows that too? If so, if you were Satan what would you try to get us to do, so he could stop us from fulfilling Gods mission for us and destroy us? Dont you think Satan would try to get us to use the very things he said John the Baptist should not use and Samuels mother should not use, to try to destroy us too? Yes there is very much significance in God not wanting us to use wine or strong drink or eat anything unclean I see those things being alcohol and drugs. If Satan can get us to use these things, we all know we can become addicted, and if we are addicted we have lost our freedom and Satan has control of us and he can then stop us from ever fully living our life and he will stop us from fulfilling the job God sent us here to do? How many of you have seen people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs and have seen how Satan controls and destroys them? I have a personal experience in my life My Dad died an alcoholic at the age of 57 after destroying the lives of his family with his addiction. If you truly believe you are a child of God and that God loves you and he has a very special purpose, job, mission for you to fulfill, then you must be smart enough to be aware of Satan and his temptations to get you to do things which can destroy you. Alcohol and Drugs are his greatest tools but there are other things he will try to do, to stop you from reaching your potential and fulfilling your mission. What are some of things he will tell you to do? Dont pray Dont read scriptures Dont go to church Dont go to school Steal Use the Lords name in vain Dont obey the Ten Commandments Be disobedient Be unkind Etc. Remember, the truth is, we have a Father-in Heaven who loves us. We have his Son Jesus Christ who loves us and who died for us so we can repent and return to them. Always remember God sent you here on a mission to help prepare the earth for his second coming and that Jesus will come again. We each have a part in that mission. We are just like John, who prepared the people for the first time Jesus came. We all have the same mission now, to prepare the earth for Saviors second and final coming and return. Along with that, we can never forget, that Satan knows our purpose and us and mission and it is his plan to do all he can to stop us from doing our Fathers work and fulfilling his plan for us. We have to be very careful and not allow Satan to be successful in our lives. We must choose: no alcohol or drugs. We must pray and read scriptures etc. God loves us, Jesus Christ loves us and they will give us the power to be able to say Get Thee Hence Satan, and thereby make the right choices to fulfill our lifes calling, and to have a happy and successful life and have the blessing of returning to live with our Father-In Heaven and his Son, our Brother, Jesus Christ. The Leeds City Square The city square, one of the most important visiting spots in Leeds, is now undergoing the process of modernization. But the modernization is not aimed at changing the city square into a symbol of modern architecture. It aims to take it back to the days of Victorian designs and architecture with the famous Black Prince statue. The ballustrades have returned and so have the nymphs with lamps. In the process of modernization, the road that ran to the square in front of the post office has been pedestrianised.
